Patriotic Postal Covers ~ WWII Events 1945         This is a group of 191 covers by Fluegel, Fidelity, Linto, Staehle, Boone, and others commemorating specific war events of 1945, not just covers canceled in 1945 that many dealers promote as 1945 patriotic covers. Between January and September 1945, more than twice the number of patriotic event covers were issued than in the previous three years. As new Allied victories were announced, more cover makers joined the rush to make event covers. Some were very good; others were terrible. Below, you'll find a selection of the very best event covers from 1945, many of which are very scarce today. They are listed below in date order.           Please order by cover number. Prices are cheap! They're way under dealer and auction prices. All covers will be sent by first class or Priority Mail. A fabulous oversize cover (8.3" x 5.5") with 12 overrun nations stamps (Scott 909-920) canceled on VE-Day, May 8, 1945, in Victory, VT. A marvelous piece for any WWII collection, SOLD E5002. An absolutely unique cover canceled aboard the USS Quincy in Tokyo Bay on VJ-Day, Sep. 2, 1945 with rubber stamp cachet and Naval Censor stamp. Autographed by Gen. Douglas MacArthur on the cachet. Reverse was mailed and canceled on Sep. 2, 1965, and has typed cachet for 20th anniversary of VJ Day. Includes pink P.O. Return Receipt signed by (or for) MacArthur in pencil in 1962. Spectacular!
