Soviet BMD-1 Targeting Model, 1:20
Airborne Amphibious Tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicle

Targeting Model, Soviet BMD-1, 1:20. This is a large scale (1:20 scale, 10" long) model of a Soviet airborne amphibious tracked infantry fighting vehicle, which was introduced in 1969 and first seen by the West in 1970. BMD stands for Boyevaya Mashina Desanta, literally "Combat Vehicle of the Airborne". It can be dropped by parachute and although it resembles the BMP-1 it is in fact much smaller. The BMD-1 was used as an IFV by the Soviet Army's airborne divisions.

The model is made from a heavy, hard, molded plastic with a sheet metal bottom. It is finished in dark green and weighs 2 pounds. Pressed into the metal bottom is the following text, "LL-SPz BMD-1, 1:20, 6910-12-303-8474 BUND." It was made for the German Army in the early 70s as a targeting model. It has an eye hook screwed into the front and rear for a thin cord (like a fish line) to drag the model in front of a lighted background to teach gunners to recognize its silhouette. Comes with two main gun barrels, one slightly longer and larger diameter than the other (and slightly darket green). It is a little dusty, but otherwise in perfect condition. There are six Soviet models in the set representing the 1970s Soviet inventory. These are very scarce today and typically sell in Europe for 30 to 50 euros each.

Packing and shipping is based on a weight of 3 pounds and is only my out-of-pocket cost. I pack and ship the same day payment is received. I'm not like some Internet sellers who build big profits into shipping and screw the buyer.
