R. Crumb's Zap Comix #1 ~ Nov 1967 ~ Apex
28 pages! ~ 9.0 VF/NM ~ Underground

R. Crumb's Zap Comix #1 ~ Nov 1967 ~ 9.0 VF/NM ~ Apex Novelties. My grading is very conservative and most sellers would grade this higher. Bright colors; binding good; b&w interior perfect; a few minor wrinkles; slight stress at binding edge; otherwise a Mint copy. Issue in 2-mil archival poly bag with stiffener. Image shows the actual comic you will get (it is NOT a stock photo).

Issue highlights: 35¢ cover price. 3rd printing (Back cover does not have a printer noted). Comics Price Guide cat no 1B. NOTE on confusing page count. There are some second and later printings of Zap #1 with only 24 pages. The one I'm selling is the FULL issue with 28 pages, as follows: Page 1 (front cover), Page 2 (Definitely A Case of Derangement), Page 3-6 (Whiteman), Page 7-8 (I'm A Ding Dong Daddy), Page 9 (Mr Natural and 2 other shorts), Page 10 (Nuttin' Nuttin'), Page 11-13 (Ultra Super Modernistic Comics), Page 14-15 (Kitchen Kut-Outs), Page 16-21 (Mr. Natural Visits The City), Page 22 (Keep On Truckin'...), Page 23-24 (Just Us Kids), Page 25 (Har Har page), Page 26 (Schuman the Human), Page 27 (Flakey Foont and 2 other shorts), Page 28 (back cover). 24-page issues are missing what this one has on pages 9, 10, 27, and 27.

By the way, there is a HUGE difference in values of Zap #1 between the 1st 25¢: printing by Charles Plymell ($2.500 for a VF copy), the second printing by Don Donahue ($250 for a VF copy, the third printing (this one) with no printer noted AND with 28 pages ($100 for a VF copy), and later (4th to 10th) 50¢ to $4.95 printings (worth about $3.50 for a VF copy). Early issues were printed by Apex Novelties (desirable) and later ones by Last Gasp (worth much less). Don't be misled -- most eBay and other on-line listings DO NOT give you the information you need to make an informed buying decision!
