R. Crumb's Zap Comix #0 ~ Oct 1967 ~ 8.0 VF ~ Underground

R. Crumb's Zap Comix #0 ~ Oct 1967 ~ 8.0 VF ~ Apex Novelties. My grading is very conservative and most sellers would grade this higher. Bright colors; binding good; b&w interior perfect; a few minor wrinkles; slight stress at binding edge; otherwise a Mint copy. Issue in 2-mil archival poly bag with stiffener. Image shows the actual comic you will get (it is NOT a stock photo).

Issue highlights: 35¢ cover price. Art by R. Crumb. 2nd printing. Comics Price Guide cat no 0A. Here's how you can tell it is a 2nd printing. Three items that identify the 1st printing are gone: 1) the ¼" black line in bottom leg of "Z" in "ZAP" on the front cover, 2) the yellow ink in upper-left-corner lettering of "I'll" on the back cover, 3) no page numbers. Also on the 2nd printing, the spine of t he cover figure (Mr. Sketchum) is unblemished as it is on the 1st printing! In the 3rd printing, right around Mr. Sketchum's top spine lump, the black ink was badly smudged. In the 4th printing this was repaired a bit, and in the 5th printing the repair was completed, but it was never quite the same as the pre-smudge image!

By the way, there is a HUGE difference in values of Zap #0 between the 1st 35¢: printing with page numbers ($350 for a VF copy), the second printing (this one) with no page numbers ($80 for a VF copy), and later (3rd to 11th) 50¢ to $4.95 printings (worth about $3.50 for a VF copy). Early issues were printed by Apex Novelties (desirable) and later ones by Last Gasp (worth much less). Don't be misled -- most eBay listing DO NOT give you the information you need to make an informed buying decision!
